History Timeline

Camino Medical Group (CMG) is founded on a tradition of local, personalized quality service and innovative health care leadership spanning five decades.

Established in 1954 by six physicians as Sunnyvale Medical Clinic, the organization has grown to become one of northern California’s largest physician-governed, multi-specialty medical groups, serving Santa Clara County and surrounding areas.

Innovative Wellness Programs

CMG is noted for developing some of the Bay Area’s first patient education and innovative preventive health care programs – ranging from courses in weight management, prenatal and infant care to diabetes and other lifestyle management programs. The Health Education Department (408-523-3222) sponsors and conducts many health management classes for the Santa Clara County community.

Patient Resource Center

The center provides physician referrals, information about services, programs and insurance plans, and assistance on how to access medical services available through the group’s network of clinics throughout Santa Clara County.

Information Systems Technology

CMG is committed to pursuing technologies to advance efficiency, including enhanced systems for patient information, physician procedures, medical records (e.g. enhanced Dictaphone technologies and electronic ID tags for doctors), radiology and medical management, so staff can focus even more time on care giving.

Comprehensive Range Of Services

• Physician primary and specialist care -- Full range of health care services provided by 240 member physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.


• Urgent care -- Walk-in and extended-hour clinic, open after normal business hours as well as on weekends and holidays.


• Medical support/ancillary services -- Many sites provide lab and X-ray services. CMG’s diagnostic imaging services provide cutting-edge imaging technology to the greater Bay Area.


• Infusion therapy -- Transfusion, inhalation, chemotherapy, pain control and other treatment services provided in a convenient ambulatory setting.


• Vision care center -- Comprehensive eye care, exams and treatment for vision disorders, optical dispensing, LASIK and specialized cornea surgeries.


• Audiology and hearing-aid services -- Testing exams and treatment for disorders and dispensing of hearing devices.


• International Travel Clinic -- Complete counseling and medical services to prepare the overseas traveler, including health information, physician exams, immunizations, and needed prescriptions and medical supplies.


• Wellness counseling and health maintenance -- A range of health education programs in prenatal and infant care, adult and child weight management, smoking cessation, diabetes, asthma and heart disease self-management.


• HMR® Weight Management Program -- Complete medically supervised weight management program.


• Sports medicine -- Treatment and prevention of sports-related injuries and health problems.


• Plastic surgery -- Aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, including cosmetic face surgery, laser skin resurfacing, body contouring, liposuction and breast surgery.


• SurgiCenter -- Efficient out-patient surgical facility at which nearly 3,000 procedures are done annually.
