Philippa Bornstein, B.A.

Mind-Body Stress Management

Philippa Bornstein, B.A.Philippa has been a practitioner of minfulness meditation for many years and received lay ordination at San Francisco Zen Center. After training as a Buddhist chaplain at the Insight Meditation Center in Redwood City, she volunteered as a multi-faith chaplain at O’Connor Hospital. She is experienced in teaching meditation practices to people who are facing stress, pain, illness, loss and grief. Presently she co-leads a meditation group in Pacifica. Philippa has received professional training in Minfulness-based Stress Reduction from Bob Stahl, Ph.D. at El Camino Hospital.

Certified Childbirth Educator - Childbirth Preparation

Melissa brings over twelve years experience as a labor-delivery room nurse to her teaching. She has been on staff at El Camino Hospital for the last five years. She team-teaches with Michelle Park.

Lifesteps® and Lifesteps® Maintenance

Education: MPA, Health Service Administration, Notre Dame de Namur University, Belmont, CA, BS in Nutrition Sciences. Bradley University, Peoria, IL

Margot has served as a dietitian in both the clinical and research environments. She holds a certificate of completion for course work in Training in Adult Weight Management and is certified to teach Lifesteps®.

Indira MacKay, B.S.N., R.N.Education: B.S.N. from San Jose State University

Indira was a registered nurse and certified midwife working in a hospital in Berkshire, England for over 10 years before moving to California. She has worked in maternity, pediatrics and labor and delivery at El Camino Hospital for the last 10 years.

Sandra Odenheimer, M.S.N., C.F.N.P.Education: B.S.N. Cal State Long Beach, M.S.N. UCLA

Sandy has worked as a Nurse Practitioner for 20 years, initially practicing in Internal Medicine and research. For the last 10 years she has worked in the dermatology department at Camino Medical Group, specializing in the treatment of acne, general skin care and wound care. She performs cosmetic procedures including chemical peels and sclerotherapy as well as consulting and educating on the prevention and treatment of photoaging skin.

Maria Ord, R.N.Education: BSN, San Jose State University

Certifications: ACLS, Neonatal Resuscitation

Maria has 15 years of clinical nursing experience in the areas of medical, surgical, orthopedics, health promotion and plastic surgery. For the last eight years she has worked as a labor and delivery nurse at El Camino Hospital.

Jennifer Scales

Breastfeeding Your Newborn

Jennifer ScalesPrior to joining our staff, Jennifer was a counselor with Nursing Mothers Counsel (NMC) for several years. NMC counselors are mothers who have nursed a baby for at least six months. They receive 18 hours of training in breastfeeding and counseling techniques in addition to reading medical texts and articles. They also train with a variety of NMC volunteers prior to becoming counselors.

Infant/Pediatric Emergencies and CPR

Robert SippelEducation: Degree in Business Administration, extensive training in Fire Science at Mission College and EMS training at Foothill College

Certifications and Licenses: Paramedic, State Fire Marshall Instructor Level B, State Fire Marshall EMT Instructor, American Heart ACLS and BLC Instructor, PLS Instructor, Medic First Aid Instructor Trainer (Adult and Pediatric), CE Provider for both EMT and Paramedic

Bob brings over 20 years of work experience to his classes. He has worked as an EMT or Paramedic since 1986, enriching his experience by instructing trauma classes for the San Jose Police Department and serving as a paramedic stand-by on local Swat Teams. He also serves as a Human Rights Commissioner for the City of San Jose.

Tracey Slezak, R.D.

Feeding Your Toddler/Preschooler

Education: Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, 1995. Dietetic Internship from Community Hospitals of Central CA and VA Medical Center in Fresno, 1996

Tracey has been working in the field of Nutrition for 11 years emphasizing in adult weight management. She became very interested in pediatric weight management/nutrition with the developing problems with childhood obesity and views the family eating dynamic as the first way to prevent the issue. She is passionate about working with parents first as the best way to train children to have healthy eating habits. Tracey also uses this philosophy at home with her toddler and preschool age daughters.

Marty has taught a variety of weight management programs in the Bay Area and maintains a private practice providing nutrition counseling for patients with a variety of clinical diagnoses
