When you first arrive at Camino Medical Group for your procedure, you may be given a small amount of valium to help you relax. Numbing eye drops will then be administered to your eyes to make you comfortable. Your eyelids will then be cleaned and an eyelid holder will then be placed between your eyelids to prevent you from blinking.

Next, an instrument known as a microkeratome creates a protective flap of tissue in the cornea. During this period you may feel pressure on the eye, but no discomfort. The flap is lifted and laser treatment is then performed while a state-of-the-art automated eye tracker ensures proper placement of the laser beam, even with small eye movements. Then the protective flap is repositioned into place, where it adheres securely without the need for stitches.

After LASIK, some patients report a slight scratchy sensation that usually goes away within 12 to 24 hours. Although the vision is somewhat "milky" immediately after the procedure, most patients can already notice improved vision within seconds of the completion of LASIK. Most patients see well enough to drive themselves in for their appointment the next day.
